Christopher Cook received the Doctor of Music from Indiana University, where he served as Assistant Director of the Center for Electronic and Computer Music. His music spans electroacoustic composition, works for acoustic instruments with fixed media, chamber music, orchestral music, and solo instrumental repertoire. His creative work explores the expressive possibilities that emerge through the integration of acoustic performance and electronic sound.

Cook is a recipient of a Fromm Music Foundation Commission from Harvard University and has received awards and recognition from the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the Music Teachers National Association, and the National Assembly of Local Arts Agencies. He has served as Composer-in-Residence at James Madison University, Amherst College, the University of Evansville, the Monroe County Community Schools Corporation (Indiana), and the city of Somerset, Pennsylvania.

His music has been performed throughout the United States and internationally by professional performers, university ensembles, and contemporary music organizations.

Performances have been presented at June in Buffalo, Music of Our Time, the Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival, the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference, American Music Week (Sofia, Bulgaria), the Utrecht Music Festival (The Netherlands), the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival, Electronic Music Midwest, the InterMedia Festival, and numerous other conferences and festivals devoted to contemporary music.

Cook’s compositions are available through Longleaf Music and are featured on recordings released by Centaur Records, Navona Records, Mark Records, Vox Novus, and other labels. His music has been performed and recorded by distinguished soloists and ensembles, with recent projects emphasizing collaborations for piano and fixed media, electroacoustic works, and music for chamber ensembles.

He is Professor of Music at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, where he teaches composition, music technology, music theory, and related subjects. In addition to his academic work, he remains active as a composer, lecturer, recording artist, and advocate for contemporary concert music. His current creative activity focuses on electroacoustic music, works for acoustic instruments with fixed media, and collaborations with pianist Mary Hellmann.
